I Should Be In Public Relations

Many of you know that I am REALLY good at getting what I want.  Most of the time, I get what I want.  Or I can convince people to give me what I want. I can change a totally unwilling husband (my brother - who is just as stubborn if not more than my Grandpa Garrett) response of NO!  We can't afford it!!  To the response of "OK Have a great time."  I should work for the White House.  If I were spinning things, we wouldn't be in a financial crisis at all.  It would be more like an opportunity for new growth and investments.  So here is how it went down:  My family (which includes my mother):

Linsey's family:
101_0046
and Jenny's family:
101_0053
are all going to Disneyland:
Disenyland Railroad
I got it into my head that I should invite the Kansas City Bailey's to go with us.  I figured that Louis would have rotations and school and couldn't get off, but that doesn't mean that his wife and kids couldn't enjoy the happiest place on earth right?  So here are the Baileys:

Sheridy's Family
So I called Louis and told him the plan and he said no way no how.  They don't have ANY money because he is going to med school.  I told him the benefits of a family vacation.  He said he would talk to Sheridy about it.  Later that night, the answer was still no.  Well, I really wanted them to come (and I usually get what I want).  So I called my mom and my sisters for reinforcements.  Each took a turn begging and trying to convince said cheap-o (still love you though) brother to let his little family go to Disneyland.  When he got home from his rotations for the week, the answer was still no.
We interrupt this blog for a "soapbox sermon"
"Hem hem.  Let me start off by saying that vacations just aren't practical.  Everybody can always use that money forsoapbox something else:  improvements on their house, food storage, braces, a new car, entertainment, etc.  The list goes on and on.  BUT - there is absolutely nothing that beats a family vacation.  The memories made will last their entire lives.  And I am amazed how vacations can cement a family so close together.  So, to me, it is worth it to sacrifice a little to make a fantastic family vacation possible.  It is possible.  Also, people would surprised how affordable Disneyland really is.  Bottom line: nobody can really "afford" a family vacation, but everyone "needs" a family vacation.  Sermon over.

OK, so after all my familial attempts to coerce Louis into relenting had failed, I decided to pull out the big guns.  When Louis and Sheridy were dating I HATED her.  I really did.  I am not proud of it now, but back then she was the devil to me (even though she did nothing wrong).  Now, she is like my sister and there is no family drama or any bad feelings at all.  So I told Sheridy to tell Louis how awful it used to be and how now we are all begging her to come on vacation with us.  So I hung up the phone and 15 minutes later Sheridy called back screaming, "WE'RE GOING TO DISNEYLAND!!!"
Like I said, I am pretty good at getting what I want.  I am so excited that almost all my family will be with us, April 21 can't come soon enough.

You should try being married to such a persuader. I think I've made "no" stick maybe twice in our marriage. :) Really though, she's the best and I wouldn't have her any other way. Sometimes she's my secret weapon. All I have to do is convince that she wants the same thing I want and then all I have to do is let her go out and get it. Like I said, she's the best.

Maybe I will turn you loose on my DH. When I even mentioned Disneyland he said no way. I think I could persuade him. Eventually.

I am excited for your family. Just be glad you didn't have to try that feat on 10 siblings.

Family vacations are the best. We really need someone like you who just plans something and goes through with it. None of the 'hum, i'll have to think about it'. or, 'sure that sounds great', but . . .
We just need to plan and DO IT!

I am glad you didn't give up too. It will be great, 19 of us together in the happiest place on earth. The only thing better is if we could all be there. Maybe next time when the kids are bigger and Louis is finished with medical school/residency. (If I'm still around that long that is). I am totally excited too. The days are going by pretty fast though. It will be here soon.

Amy,

What memories would those be?

Abby,
Do you really want me to list all of the times you persuaded all of us into causing mischief? That would actually be a fun post...maybe I should dig up some pictures. (Matt would have a good laugh).
