Eight is Great!!

Today my oldest turns eight years old!!  This morning he climbed into bed with me and talked about all of the things he had done up to this point.  Matt and I sat with him and told him all about the day we had him.  He giggled when we showed him how tiny his feet and hands were.  They don’t stay little for long.  Friday after the painting we had a celebration for the little guy.

Jeremy was so excited.

After the cake, we all gathered for the presents:

That kid got a haul.  Linsey and Ray gave him the movie Spirit.  Jenny and Justin got him a Nerf Gun.  Bailee got him a legos helicopter, and me and Grandma went in together on the Harry Potter Burrows legos.  He’s already put together all the legos and took them show and tell yesterday!
Dad grabbed the Spirit movie and Jeremy had a little moving target practice.  Dad would throw the movie in the air and Jeremy would try to hit it with his Nerf gun:

It was a great night.  And here are eight great things about my little guy.
1.  At his last teacher conference we discovered he is in the 99th percentile of the nation in Math.  He’s going to be a little nerd like his dad.
2.  He has a serious knack for putting together legos.  He loves them.  In a month he has put together the hogwarts castle, hagrids hut, and now the burrow!!
3.  He is becoming a better cook.  After the painting party my back has been killing me.  So every night Jeremy has put me in bed and brought me some dinner so I could rest.  He’s cooked me quesadillas, grilled cheese, soup, and spaghetti.  He is such a help!!
4.  He was out to the meadow with Dad helping a calf be born and while Dad was off feeding the other cows, the new baby calf stood up and started cuddling and licking Jeremy.  He tried to convince his Grandpa to let him take it home and put it in his backyard, but his mother put the brakes on that idea.
5.  He loves, loves, loves to hear stories about when he was younger.  He’ll sit with rapt attention as we tell all about him whether it is falling asleep in his high chair, hanging onto grandpa’s steering wheel bouncing up and down to the music on the radio, or giving his new baby sister kisses and helping to take care of her.  He can’t get enough of it!
6.  When I asked him what his favorite trip was, he blurted out without hesitation – THE BOOK CLIFFS.  That kid loves to be outdoors.  We would rather sleep under the stars with his dad than in his warm comfy bed any day of the week.  He is already talking about all the pack trips him and his dad are going to have when it starts to get warmer.  I think he’s got a little bit of cabin fever.
7.  He HATES to take a shower or bath.  I blame all of the westerns that he has watched with his grandpa, but I literally have to peel off his clothes and throw him in the water.  I don’t even want to think about how long he would go without showering if I didn’t make him – Gross!!
8.  Finally, he is ready to be baptized and become a member of the Church.  Ever since his interview with the Bishop he has been talking about how awesome it is going to be to have the Holy Ghost as a CONSTANT companion.  He loves learning the gospel and he reminds me every morning that we need to read the scriptures before he goes to school.

Happy Birthday Jeremy!!  I am so proud of the choices you are making and the man you are becoming!!

That's my little man. He's the All-American boy if ever there was one. All he needs now is a pair of over-all's and a stick to bang against a white picket fense as he runs by it barefoot. Of course, Jeremy would rather lope his horse passed the fence. I'm so proud of the fine young man that he's becoming. It's nice that he has such an interest in the outdoors because now I'll have an excuse to go out and enjoy nature. That's right, I said enjoy nature. Most of all, I'm proud of his willingness and love of the gospel. I look forward to the many more wonderful things that I know he will do in his life. I love you little man.

Great post. We had a great time at the birthday party. We need to stop more often and look at the good things our children do and are.
