The 2nd best weekend of the year: General Conference. Friday I loaded the kids up and headed to Salt Lake. We got to the hotel just in time to unload the car. The kids were excited:
Matt met us and we headed out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse. The kids LOVED playing on the saddle in the waiting room:
We were seating in 15 minutes (not bad for a party of 10). Then we headed back to the hotel for a swim. I planned to spend the entire time in the hot tub soaking my stresses away. It was a relaxing night. Saturday morning the kids "tried" to bounce dad out of bed, but ended up getting steam rolled:
We headed down to breakfast and came back upstairs to watch the 1st session of conference (the best session in my opinion). Two of my favorite talks were in this session. President Uchtdorf urging us to SLOW DOWN. One thing he said really struck me. That it is easy to be busy and fill you life with unessential things. He talked about when times are toughs, trees reserve all their energy on fundamental things. Times are tough and Satan is working overtime to pull our children away. I want to focus on the fundamentals of the gospel and teach my children about the Savior, the Atonement, and the Plan of Salvation.
Elder Christofferson's talk about living a consecrated life spoke to my soul. I yearned to live a consecrated life. He said that consecration means repentance, submission, and acceptance of all that the Lord will require. I want to do all that Heavenly Father asks of me.
After a quick lunch, we got ready and headed to the Saturday Afternoon session. It was HOT as we walked to the Conference Center but so so beautiful, and I was snapping pictures along the way:
For some reason, this statue really struck me. The intent they were looking into each other's eyes was strong and firm. I want to look at Matt like that and know that together, we can overcome anything.
We had to stop at our usual spot for a picture:
A few weeks earlier, we came up to see Rob and get Matt a new suit. He was super excited and said he wanted a full length picture so everyone could see his awesome suit:
We finally made it into the Conference Center:
After the session we headed back to the car. I still wasn't feeling 100% and my throat was hurting so I opted to stay at the hotel and watch the kids while Mom and Jenny went to Ladies Night at Deseret Book, and the Men went to the Priesthood Session of Conference (which was Matt's favorite session, he LOVED Uchtdorf's talk on Pride).
The next morning we grabbed some breakfast and watched the first session of Conference. Jeremy actually sat right next to me and listened to ALL of Elder Oak's talk on the Personal and Priesthood Lines of Communication. After he finished speaking Jeremy turned to me and said "That guy knows Heavenly Father huh?" It was great to see Jeremy touched by something. Then we packed up the car and took all the kids home while Jenny and Justin went with mom and dad to the afternoon session. It was, as usual, a GREAT weekend. I look forward to General Conference all year and next time, Jeremy will actually be able to go to the sessions!!

Conference was a great experiance for our family. We got to spend some quality time together and listen to the words of the Prophet and Apostles. It was great to see Jeremy sit and take interest in what was being said. He was super excited when we told him that the next time we come up he'll be able to go to the session with us. Heavenly Father has trully blessed our family. I was uplifted and motivated to do better.
I loved conference. I am going to go back and listen again and again. There was lots I missed with little kids running around, although they did pretty good during the first session to sit and listen with their conference bingo.
I think it's so awesome that you get to go up and be there for conference.
We LOVE the Texas Road house!! I just found one here that is about 25 min away. can't wait to go back to it. Glad you all had a great time.
I think your General Conference traditions are so great! I'm glad you had a nice time!
It was such a wonderful weekend. I love hearing from them all. The atmosphere is so special. You just can't beat being right there.
