In my youth, during a rainstorm, we would always run outside and jump in the puddles. We would make boats to sail along the curbs full of rushing water. We would run and jump and laugh just because it was raining. The older I got, the appeal to do so became less and less. Until one day, I had no desire to play in the rain at all. It gets your socks wet and they are damp the rest of the day. It ruins expensive shirts and time consuming hair styles. Excessive rain causes hydroplaning and crashes. Nope. Rain just wasn't magical to me anymore. That is, until last Friday. That day I was reminded just how great a rainstorm is. Afternoon summer rainstorms are the best! It's warm and light outside. The rain started coming down about 5:00 and not just a sprinkle. HUGE raindrops. The gutters were flooding over. Water was everywhere. Jeremy and Bailee ran up to me and were begging me to
go out and play in the rain. My initial (in my head) reaction was "NO WAY!! You will get wet (which is kind of the point in their minds) and you will get sick, and no. However, as I looked at the excitement in their eyes, I flashed back to when I was young and all the fun I had playing in the rain. Their puppy dog eyes, melted my heart and I told them they could play in the rain. Suddenly, my heart was full of joy as I watched my
babies play in the rain. I watched them run around on the same lawn that I did over 20 years earlier. I realized that wet socks and ruined hair styles were a small price to pay for a few moments of innocent childish fun. Rain is wonderful in a child's eye, and on that day, we all witnessed how a little bit of rain could cause so much magic.

I kept the magic of rainy days until i went on my mission and i had to tract in it. All throughout highschool i would take off in a rain storm on my mountain bike and hit every puddle i could find. Then i'd come home, dry off, pick up one of my friends and a beverage then go find even bigger puddles with my dads old Ford truck. Don't tell dad (i'm pretty sure that he won't read this blog :) ) that i used to find puddles so big that water was flowing in on the bed of the truck and you could hear a "blop blop blop" because the exhause pipe was under water as well. Ah, the magic of rain indeed!
That was a big of magic for all of us that day. Children don't care about anything but having fun and meeting their momentary desires for said fun. It was great for me too. I have always loved the rain but now I love to just cuddle in a blanket on the porch and watch. Just as much fun when you're my age wouldn't you say.
That is true. I would much rather cuddle up in a huge blanket with Matt and watch it rain.
That was a great rain storm!!! and just think the kids were completly dry with in the next hour and a half. Glad we could spend it with ya because there is no way I'd let my kids do that in Missouri!!
I love to play in the rain, sometimes. I love the smell. Your kids are going to have some great memories of the rain, just like you do.
Oh the good ole days when you didn't have a care in the world! That was a fun day! It was great to actually see all the kids have fun together!! It was fun!!
I was waiting to here that you ran out there with them and got all wet. I did that the other day with the kids. It was fun.
