A Child's Prayer

Yesterday, Sharon called me and said that they sold their house!!  Yeah!!! Bailee I was shopping with Bailee when I got the call and she overheard bits and pieces of the conversation.  Suddenly, she was obsessed with Cory and Sharon.  We would get in the explorer to head to a different store and Bailee would ask, "Are we going to Cory and Sharon's now?"  "No sweetie, we aren't going to be able to go down there anymore."  Later at random times, "Where is Cory?"  "He is at his work."  "When is he coming to see me?"  "Not for a while."  Throughout the entire day, she was obsessed with Cory and Sharon, asking various questions and making random comments.  That night, as we put her to bed, she begins her sweet child's prayer:Girl Praying

"Heavenly Father, please help me be good.  Please bless Grandpa Max and Grandma Cindy and their two doggies.  Please bless Justin, Jenny, baby Zoey, and Tyler with his hurt leg.  Please bless that McKenzie will be able to come and play with me again.  Please bless that I can climb the treehouse all by myself without daddy or Justin to help me.  Please bless Cory and Sharon that they will sleep in my room and have fun.  That Cory will give me hugs and take me on rides.  Please bless Ammon and Sam that they will play with me and that they will have fun in Jeremy's room and be friends.  Please bless that I can help take care of Benny and Zeecky and help feed them and help to get them dressed.  Please help them play with my toys and that I can hug them and show them my room and my dollie and my pinky pie pony.  And please help us to have a good time as a family that we can eat dinner and play and be together.  Please help me to eat all my food so I will be strong and tall so I can go to Disneyland and ride all the rides.  Please bless Jeremy that he will be nice to me.  Please bless Grandpa that he will take me to get a drink, and please bless Grandma that she can work and take me to the park to play.  Please bless me that I will learn to swing all by myself.  Please bless the Bishop and I can have a sucker.  Please bless Mommy and Daddy that they will play with me.  In the name . . . "Bailee2

The things she asks for every night vary a little, but the  sentiment is the same.  A three-year-old can kneel down and ask Heavenly Father for the most innocent desires of their heart.  When was the last time I kneeled down and asked Heavenly Father that my family would have a good time being together?  Before I had children, I thought that those things were trivial and that I didn't need to talk to my Heavenly Father about them.  That night, I kneeled next to my daughter and listened to her talk to her Heavenly Father like she were talking to me or Matt.  As I listened, I pictured her sitting on my Heavenly Father's lap kicking her feet back and forth as she told him everything that happened to her that particular day.  Suddenly, I realized that there was nothing trivial about the little things that Bailee was praying for.  It was at that moment that I learned how to offer a pure and loving prayer to my Heavenly Father.

That's my Bailee girl. She's always got something to teach us. I think that Heavenly Father sent her to us to keep us in line. Abby and I will be discussing things in our usual loud way (it's a more playful way we make decisions sometimes) and then we'll look over and there's Bailee standing with her hands on her hips and a stern look on her face. Then she'll say something like "You guys need to be nice to each other". and she won't leave until we apologize to each other and hug. She's the best!

I wish we could all be like children. They are so sincere and real. You never have to wonder if there is a different meaning to what they are saying. I too have learned a lesson in prayer. It is a good thing we have Sweet Bailee around for us all to learn from.

Awe! That's so precious. We're going to have lots of fun. The boys are excited to come live with Jeremy and Bailee.
Ammon said a prayer a couple of weeks ago that was so cute. I was thinking about posting it. Maybe I will.
Great post!

That was delicious! My kids are getting to the point where they want to make their prayers snappy.
