His/Her 10th Anniversary

For our tenth anniversary, we decided to each take a night for a date. Since our anniversary was on a Thursday, I chose to take that day and Matt did Friday.
HER DATE
I came home from work and started getting the house ready. I lined the walkway from the door to the table with candles:

Then I had dinner waiting for him on the table.

Lasagna, green salad, garlic bread, and cupcakes. The kids helped me make it of course. Once Matt called and said he was 15 minutes away I sent the kids over to Grandma’s so we could have dinner with each other.

After dinner Matt opened his gifts.Since it was our 10 year anniversary, the traditional gift is tin so I bought a little tin and filled it with peanut M & M’s and then put some vinyl on it that said 10 years, but I forgot to take a picture of it.
I also bought an ornamental box from Hobby Lobby:

Then I wrote a bunch of memories, inside jokes, and fun things we have done over the past 10 years and I put them all in the box:

Finally, Matt had mentioned he wanted Elder Oaks new book, so I ran down to Kimo’s Kamera and it was actually on sale:

After the gifts we watched the very first movie that we ever saw together – Mummy Returns. It was a fun night.

HIS DATE
Friday was Matt’s night to shine. Mom dropped me off at his work at 3:30. So I grabbed the Explorer and wandered around Target waiting for 5:00 to roll around. I picked Matt up and he took me over to the Riverwoods. We sat on a bench and he gave me my gift:

He told me to read the address. He is such a romantic. I opened the envelope and Matt had writing 31 (since I was 31) of his favorite memories of him and I. It was so sweet and took a lot of effort. We sat and reminisced about the past 10 years. Some memories were sweet, some were crazy, but all were wonderful. It was getting pretty chilly, so we headed to the car. On the way, we stopped at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and grabbed some chocolate covered strawberries. Then Matt got on University Ave and started heading south. He wouldn’t tell me where we were going to dinner. Finally he pulled over and I saw we were eating here:

I was very excited. I had wanted to eat there for forever. On our way in we paused for a photo of downtown Provo:

So we headed in and the place was DEAD. No one was there. So we got our seat and ordered. We both had the special and honestly – IT WAS AWFUL!!! I don’t know how they did it, but the mashed potatoes managed to be runny AND lumpy. It wasn’t the best dinner, but at least it is a fun story to tell. After dinner, Matt had got tickets to see This Means War!! It was a fun night and a great way to spend our anniversary!!

It was a great time. I am truly grateful to Abby for the wonderful memories we've had for the last 10 years. It was funny, after we ate and were walking back to the Explorer, we kept saying things like "at least it was a new experiance" and "well, we won't have to wonder what it's like in there anymore" like we were convincing ourselves that it was such a let down. :) Love you honey. Thanks for the date!
