The Hills Are Alive!!

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Sound of Music. I grew up with the music, the movie, and the desire to run along the Austrian hillside singing (off key) with all my heart. So when I saw the Sound of Music was going to Sundance, I leapt at the chance. As luck would have it, Verena’s birthday was around the same time so I got on the phone and made arrangements with Mace.  Verena and I picked up the boys from their respective workplaces and headed to La Jolla Groves. I had heard so many wonderful reviews, I was very excited to try this place:

The lemon chicken was super tasty, but that is where it ended. I had heard so many raving reviews about their lemon cake, and I suppose I built it up too much in my mind and it just didn’t live up to my expectations. Everyone else said the dinner was good, but definitely skip the desserts.

As we were finishing up our dinner, the rain started to POUR. Well, sheets of rain and hail, so while Verena and I went to the bathroom:

We sent Matt to brave the storm and get us some umbrellas, but by the time we were all done, the rain had stopped. It was still very nice of him though *wink.

Then we made our way up to Sundance. Since it had just rained the waterfalls were lovely and the scenery was gorgeous:

We pulled in to Sundance and were greeted by this:

They dropped me off at the box office so I could pick up our tickets while they went and parked. We met by the chair lifts to enjoy a “pleasant” tractor ride to the top of the hill where the amphitheatre is:

I may or may not have squished them to the point that Mace almost fell off the trailer, but the scenery was still pretty.

The amphitheatre was the perfect setting for this play.

These were our seats:

Once we sat down it started to sprinkle so we got out our umbrellas:

I tried to get a decent shot of the Lenharts, but both pictures were blurry.

Before it started the director came out and gave a gift card to someone who was willing to sing some of the songs:

Maria was amazing. She sounded just like Julie Andrews. She is at the top of the hill singing. I’m not sure if you can see her:

It was so much fun and one of the best parts is they let you sing a long with some of the songs.  After the play, we hiked down the road, back to our car.  On the way home, we stopped at Sonic and got some treats and wound our way through Spanish Fork, Salem, Payson, Santaquin, Mona and then home.  It was a fun night and it is always fun to make lasting memories with good friends!

It was a wonderful night. The food was really good, but the portion sizes were a little bit on the scant size. I was hungry and it just didn't satisfy. Still tasty though. The trip up the canyon and to the ampitheater was amazing. It was nice and cool and beautiful. The performance was great. I'm glad that we all got to enjoy such a wonderful time with such great friends.

Any time I have a chance to see the Sound of Music I AM THERE! The weather was perfect the setting fantastic and the cast magnificent. Abby really knows how to spoil Verena and my family and Matt just lets her do it. We had a fantastic time, and the company wasn't bad either.*wink I think Abby should be an entertainment coordinator and get paid for events she plans. Except from us of coarse. It was an awesome evening. Thanks guys
