For my birthday in May, Matt surprised me with tickets to see Death Cab for Cutie!! Don’t let the name scare you, they are really, really good. So yesterday was the big day. I left work early and mom took me up to meet Matt at his work so we could drive together.
Since it was her birthday the day before, I called Holly to meet us for dinner:
Holly only had 45 minutes for her dinner break from work, so she headed back to work and we headed to the Maverick Center:
We found our seats, which were pretty decent, and we waited for the show to start:
This was how far we were from the stage:
Frightened Rabbit was the opening act. They are from Scotland and I have a few of their songs on iTunes. They were excellent.
The drummer messed up on one of the songs so they started over. You gotta love live music! There weren’t a whole lot of people there to see Frightened Rabbit, which is too bad, because certainly entertained. After a short break, DCFC took the stage.
Ben Gibbard is one talented man. He played the piano, guitar, and even hopped on the drums. The whole band was great. They had a screen behind them that lit up and changed with each chord.
Matt’s favorite was Grapevine Fires:
He was always going back and forth from the guitar to the piano:
My camera really stinks. I think I might have to get a new one. My favorite number was I will follow you into the dark. The rest of the band went backstage and it was just Ben with an acoustic guitar:
They played all the classics and some new stuff from their latest album.
After he was finished on the drums:
He threw the sticks out into the audience. I think the most popular song was Soul Meets Body. The entire arena was singing along with him.
After their final song, the crowd was still going nuts so they came back out and did four more songs!!

One thing that I really enjoyed was that the show wasn’t over-produced. They came and sang their songs and were highly interactive with the audience. Although, Lifehouse is still my favorite, DCFC is right up there and I will definitely be going again when they come. They played for 2 straight hours and Frightened Rabbit played for 45 minutes, and the tickets were only $30. It doesn’t get any better than that. And the best part was spending time with Pookie. Thanks for the awesome b-day gift!!
